Modern Guitar – Guitar Duo

Modern Guitar – Guitar Duo

This piece is an exercise in a high level of serialism in a pseudo-solo context. I kind of expected the drone guitar to act as something between a tambura and punk bass, and the solo to float over that.

The series is CEC#AF#D#DFG#BA#G and is traditionally permutated. Using the half-steps between each tone derives the initial rhythmic series: 43433143313. This is inverted by numerical distance to 45455745575. Each number represents “x eighth notes.” These two rhythmic series are then are turned into a set of series by subtracting to 0 then adding; producing in the rhythmic p-series:
43433143313
32322032202
21211121111
10100210020
01211301131
12322412242
23433523353
34544634464
45655745575
The piece then uses each rhythmic and tonal series once.
